Horses To Remember

Jupiter
Inducted February 18, 2005

Played by Lewis Lacey in the 1928 Cup of the Americas, this chestnut pony made history in 1928 when he was sold to John Sanford for the unprecedented sum of $22,000, an exorbitant amount at the time. Jupiter was by the stallion Fripon, bred by Estrugamou and was initially played by Alfredo Rojas Sanchez before being purchased by Sanford. Jupiter was an excellent quality pony but with a sometimes difficult disposition. Only Lacey's masterful handling could bring out the best in Jupiter. After collecting prizes in London shows, Jupiter was played by Devereux Milburn until an injury forced Jupiter from active competition.
